Notes from 1-3-12
5-5 Fractions and Percent
Ratio; a comparison of two numbers by division

34:100 34/100 34 out of 100 34 per 100 = 34%

When you compare a number to 100 it can be written as a %

8/20
8/20 = 40/100 = 40% (multiply both numerator and denominator by 5 to equal 100)

$18.95 out of 100 = 18.95%

percent as a fraction 78% = 78/100 = 39/50

46.5% = 46.5/100 = 465/1000 = 93/200

There will be a chapter 4 test on Thursday!
Roller coasters are due on Friday

4-6 Functions and Linear equations

Function rule 2x
3-------> 6
4------> 8
5------->10
6-----> 12

The input, {3, 4, 5, 6} is called the domain
The output is called the range {6, 8, 10, 12}

The domain represents the x values, and the output represents y values.

To graph this function, the ordered pairs are:
(3, 6)
(4, 8)
(5, 10)
(6, 12)

Words that mean "add" : plus, increase, sum, and, more than

Words that mean "subtract" minus, decrease, fewer, less, left. seven less n = 7-n but seven less than n = n-7

Words that mean "mutiply" times, by, product, doubled, tripled

Words that mean "divide" quotient, dividend, division, separate, share, groups

-7 + (-8) + + 4 -3 + 6 - (-7) + - 10 -2 + 8
Rule 1: Eliminate double signs
-7-8+4-3+6+7-10-2+8
Rule 2: box negatives: -7-8-3-10-2 = -30
Circle Positives: 4+6+7+8 = 25

25-30 = -5

2-7 Bar Graphs and Histograms

Histogram = A special kind of bar graph. It used bars to represent the frequency of numerical data organized into intervals.

Notes from 10-13-11
Zoo project due 10-21-11. You must do a box and whisker plot and bar graph. For third graph, choose between a steam and leaf plot, histogram, or line plot. Don't do a line graph- we aren't showing change over time!

Math: Abby, I scanned a copy of the 2-1 worksheet and emailed it to you. We can go over it in the learning lab tomorrow if you have questions.external image pdf.png homework 2-1.pdfI also uploaded it here. Let me know if it works!
